Cornelius Ray (1755-1827)

President of the United States Bank & the New York Chamber of Commerce

He and his wife were the parents of three children. Both his sons and his son-in-law worded for the merchant bank of Prime, Ward & King. Cornelius bequeathed a large tract of land to his three children that stretched from 8th Avenue to the Hudson River between 27th and 31st Streets. They gave part of that land to the Church, where the Church of the Holy Apostles was erected in 1846.
