Col. Percy Horatio Manfred Whyte Esq of Capetown, South Africa (1873-1933)
Percy Horatio Manfred Whyte of Cape Town, South Africa was born in Greenwich, Kent, England in 1873 the son of Oswald Tracy Whyte Esq of London and Greenand Lois Beazer, as the youngest of 6 children. He was the father of Joan Elizabeth Wellesley Longridge née Whyte and grandfather to David John Ernle Longridge. Out of the 6 children, 2 of Percy’s older siblings had been born and partially brought up in Cape Town, South Africa. His family split their time between London and South Africa. He was educated at Dulwich College and later studied engineering at Trinity College, Cambridge. He married Eleanor Beatrice Buckland of Rye, Sussex in July, 1908 in Richmond, Surrey. He was a Col. in the South African Light Horse and fought in the Boer War. He died in Marylebone in London in 1933.
