Col. Ninian Beall (1625-1717)

He was born in Scotland at Largo in Fife. Standing at 6'7" and with flaming red hair he served in the Scottish army as a Cornet under the Banner of Leslie but was captured by Cromwell's men after the Battle of Dunbar (1650) and sold into slavery, arriving in Calvert Co., Maryland by way of Barbados. In time, he became the original patentee of the "Rock of Dumbarton" in Georgetown, a Member of the (Maryland) House of Burgesses, and Commander-in-Chief of the Provincial Forces of Maryland. This picture of "Colonel Ninian Beall" has become generally acknowledged on various websites to be that of Col. Ninian Beall (1625-1717), except that it simply can't be him - his clothes and style are out by at least a hundred years - and its far more likely that this is an image of one of his many grandsons or great-grandsons. His official biographies offer no portrait, and that said to be his wife (Ruth) is also almost certainly not her image either.
