Col. Johnston Livingston de Peyster (1846-1903)

Mayor of Tivoli, Dutchess Co. & Member of the New York State Assembly

He was commissioned as an officer into the Union Army in 1864 and is remembered for raising the first Union flag over the Confederate capitol of Richmond, Virginia, after its fall in 1865.
