Gen. John Neilson (1745-1833)

Brigadier-General in the Continental Army & Co-Founder of Rutgers University

He was a first cousin of the successful New York merchant William Neilson. His father died in the same year that he was born and he was adopted by his wealthy uncle, James Neilson, who made him his heir.
