Christopher Robinson III (1705-1768)

Christopher Robinson III, of Hewick Plantation, Virginia

He grew up in Virginia and inherited the Manor of Hewick in Yorkshire, originally purchased by his distinguished great-uncle, John Robinson, Lord Privy Seal and Lord Bishop of London etc. As per his late father's will, he sold the 9,000-acre Manor of Hewick for £17,000 to Sir Fletcher Norton and rebuilt his plantation in Virginia, naming it "Hewick". He represented Middlesex County in the Virginia House of Burgesses (1752-58) and was married twice. His first wife, Mary, was the daughter of Edmund Berkeley of Barn Elms, and they had two daughters (listed) who lived to adulthood. After she died, he married Sarah, daughter of John Wormeley, of Rosegill and niece of John Tayloe, and they had two more children (listed) who lived to adulthood.
