Chevy Chase (b.1943)
"Chevy" Cornelius Crane Chase; Actor, Talk Show Host, & Emmy Award Winner
He was named for his mother's stepfather, Cornelius Vanderbilt Crane, and spent his summers at Castle Hill. He was given the nickname "Chevy" by his grandmother from the medieval English ballad "The Ballad of Chevy Chase". He made his name on Saturday Night Live (1975–1976) with his recurring Weekend Update segment which became a staple of the show for which he won two Primetime Emmy Awards. He then established himself as a star in some of the most successful comedy films of the 1980s including Foul Play (1978), Caddyshack (1980), Fletch (1985), Seems Like Old Times (1980), Spies Like Us (1985), ¡Three Amigos! (1986), Funny Farm (1989), and as Clark Griswold in five National Lampoon's Vacation films. He hosted the Academy Awards twice (1987 and 1988) and for a short period had his own late-night talk show, The Chevy Chase Show (1993). More recently, he has starred as Pierce Hawthorne on the NBC sitcom Community (2009–2014). He has been married three times and has three children.
