Charles Pickering Bowditch (1842-1921)

J.P., Archaeologist, Cryptographer, Linguist & Specialist in Mayan Epigraphy

He was President of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, a major donor for the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology at Harvard University, and he funded numerous academic expeditions to Central America. In business, he was President of the Massachusetts Hospital Life Insurance Company, Vice-President of the American Bell Telephone Company, and a Director of the Massachusetts Cotton Mills, the Pepperell Manufacturing Company, and the Boston & Providence Railroad Company.
