Charles Howard Lloyd (1859-1929)

of Baltimore & "Wye House" Talbot Co., Maryland

His wife, Mary, purchased Wye House, its outbuildings and contents, and several thousand acres of land from her brother-in-law, Edward Lloyd, for $2,726.80, using her own family money. They lived in Baltimore, and maintained Wye as a summer/country home. In 1943, their daughters Joanna and Elizabeth inherited the property, and Elizabeth and her husband, Morgan B. Schiller, moved in. Joanna’s daughter, Mary, inherited Wye in the 1990s and up until her death in 2012 set about preserving the house, its furnishings and outbuildings. Wye still remains in their family.
