Charles-François de Montsaulnin (1836-1910)
Comte de Montsaulnin, of Château de Fontenay, Tendron; Conseiller-Général du Cher
He was born in Paris and lived in South America for many years before returning to France in 1870. In the following year, he was appointed Conseiller-Général of the Cher (1871-1910) also serving as Deputy of the Cher (1889-1893), working primarily on labor law issues, particularly regarding the employment of children, underage girls, and women in factories. He lived between Paris and the Château de Fontenay (see images) at Tendron. He was styled as the Comte de Montsaulnin and on succeeding to his chateau he also became the Baron de Fontenay. He was President of the Jockey Club and for 40-years was one of the leaders of French aristocratic society. In 1873, he married an American heiress, Anna Elliott Morris Zbrowska, daughter of the eccentric Martin Zbrowski, of Morrisania, New York, and sister of the well-known motor-racing driver, Elliott Zborowski, husband of Maggie de Stuers (granddaughter of W.B. Astor).
