Charles Edwin Rittenhouse (1813-1880)
of "Rittenhouse Place" Georgetown, D.C.
He went to Washington D.C. about four years after his brother, Benjamin, and became President of the banking firm of Rittenhouse, Fowler & Co., and of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce. In 1841, he married Sarah Whitall, and they had seven children. As a wedding present, his brother-in-law bought them Dumbarton Oaks which was then called Bellevue and they renamed it "Rittenhouse Place".
