Charles Crommelin (1676-1739)

Founder of the Holland Trading Company and Crommelin & Zoon, of Amsterdam

He was the son of Daniel Crommelin (b.1646), a French Huguenot from Crencourt in the Upper SaƓne north of Dijon who escaped from France to Amsterdam. He founded the Holland Trading Company in 1720 that, "conducted an extensive and lucrative business between Amsterdam and New York. In this enterprise, he was associated with other well-known Amsterdam bankers - Messrs. Willincks, Ten Broeck and Schemmelpennick. He also founded the great Amsterdam banking house of Crommelin & Zoon. In 1706, he married Anna, daughter of Robert and Maria (Duycking) Sinclair, of New York, and they had eight children of whom six (listed) survived to adulthood
