Bentley Douglas Hasell (1829-1900)

of Brooklyn, New York; President of the Hasell Perfected Railroad Signal Co.

He was born at Charleston, South Carolina. He graduated from Trinity College (1848) as a Civil Engineer and worked on the U.S. Dry Dock at Michigan and various Railroads. He was appointed Chief Engineer and General Manager of the N.O., Jackson and Great Northern Railroad (later part of the Louisville and Nashville System) and then President of the Charleston & Savannah Railroad. Moving to New York, he was a commission merchant and the senior partner of B.D. Hasell & Co., of New York and President of the Hasell Perfected Railroad Signal Company. In 1852, he married Hannah, daughter of Judge Jesse Morgan of Indiana (formerly of Virginia).
