Arthur Woodriff Jaffray (1822-1864)

Merchant, of Hartsfield Manor, Betchworth, Surrey

His father established a successful dry good business that operated between London and New York. Arthur became a partner in the family firm and in 1863 began to build Hartsfield Manor in Surrey (see images). He didn't live to see the house finished, having died in 1864 after a bullet wound to his hand from a shooting accident became infected. His widow and her new husband moved into Hartsfield in 1871.
