Arthur Rose Vincent (1876-1956)
Arthur Rose Vincent, C.B.E., of Muckross House, Co. Kerry
He was born in India while his father was in command of the 3rd King's Own Hussars, but three year later moved back to Summerhill, their family home in Ireland. He was educated at Wellington College, Berkshire; the College de France, Paris; and Trinity College, Dublin. He qualified as a Barrister and joined the Foreign Office in 1903 when he was posted to East Africa as a Magistrate. He was a Judge at Zanzibar, Bangkok and Shanghai before resigning in 1910 after his marriage to the American heiress, Maud Bowers Bourn. They lived at Muckross House in County Kerry until her death in 1929. He was an independent member for the State Senate of Ireland between 1931 and 1934. He was remarried in 1933 to Dorothy Crouteur and in 1937 they left Ireland for Monaco, where he died. He was the father of two children by his first wife.
