Anthony Joseph Drexel Jr. (1864-1934)

"Tony" Drexel, of Philadelphia, London & Paris

He was born in Philadelphia and joined the family bank. But, just four months after his father's death, he resigned aged just 29-years old. He was reputed to be a man of intelligence and wit and moved to London with his wife, taking up residence at 22 Grosvenor Square. He socialized in the same circle as Edward VII, collected stamps, and was a devoted yachtsman - a pastime that cost him $250,000 a year. Having had a string of affairs, he divorced his wife in 1917 when her lawyer described him as, "a man whose character and temper had been completely destroyed by his great wealth". After the divorce, he moved to 68 Rue de Bellechasse in Paris. He was survived by his four children including the beautiful Countess of Winchilsea.
