Anthony Hoffman (1739-1790)

of Red Hook, Dutchess County; Member of the New York State Senate, etc.

He graduated from Kings (Columbia) College and took up residence in Red Hook, owning considerable acreage in Dutchess County. He became active in politics, first as a Patriot, and later as a Federalist. He was a Delegate to the 1st, 3rd & 4th New York Provincial Congresses; Delegate to the New York State Constitutional Convention (1777); Member of the New York State Assembly for Dutchess County (1777-78, 1778-79, & 1784); Town Supervisor of Rhinebeck (1781-85); Regent of the University of the State of New York (1784-87); and, a Member of the New York State Senate from 1788 until his death in 1790. He married Mary, sister of Anthony Rutgers, and had 1-daughter.
