Andrew Gautier Bininger (1820-1891)

Wine Merchant, of No. 2 West 36th Street, New York City

He was born in New York City, the son of Jacob and Harriet (Burger) Bininger, of 83 Chambers Street. His family had long been wine merchants, and he too became the senior partner in A. Bininger & Co., wine merchants, of Liberty Street. He was a co-founder of the Knickerbocker Club, and a devoted member of the Century Association: "Possessed of a cheerful and convivial disposition, he was a general favorite, and whether in Club revels, in which he was prominent, or in its quiet hours of calm, his place was seldom vacant, as long as health lasted. For over forty years, the (Century) clubhouse was his favorite resort, and he had come to be considered a part of the institution itself." In 1842, he married Margaret, daughter of John Balthus Dash, Hardware Merchant. They lived at No. 2 West 36th Street, N.Y.C., and had one son.
