Andrew Donald (d.1806)

Merchant & Planter, of "Ottercaps" aka Fancy Farm, Bedford Co., Virginia

He was a native of Greenock in Scotland and came to Virginia in 1790. In 1794, he purchased property in Bedford County on which he built what is known as, "Fancy Farm... as suggested by its name, the new house outshone its more modest neighbors and set a standard for the area. During the Civil War, Fancy Farm was occupied by Union Gen. David Hunter. In 1921 it was purchased by Sir George Sitwell, 4th Bt., of the English literary family, for his nephew Capt. Herbert FitzRoy Sitwell."
