Alice Elizabeth Busk (b.1848)

Alice Elizabeth Busk, of Southwark, London; died unmarried

Alice was a devoted Christian and she and Elizabeth Kenny were described as the most effective vestrywomen at St. Mary's, Southwark. Alice was a housing worker in a parish of 60,000 that was considered to be the poorest in London. She was a firm believer that social work was synonymous with good citizenship. Her sister, Mary, was married to the Governor of the Bank of England and her brother, Joseph, had settled in America and built a mansion still standing at Newport, Rhode Island
