Alfred James Shaughnessy (1916-2005)
"Freddy" Shaughnessy, of London; Script Writer & Producer
He was born in London in the same year his father was killed in WWI. He was brought up by his stepfather, Sir Piers Legh, between their home on Norfolk Square in London and Lyme Park in Cheshire. He was educated at Summer Fields, Eton, and R.M.C. Sandhurst. He was the creator of the hit TV series Upstairs, Downstairs, and a member of the Garrick Club in London. Pete Walker, director of two of Shaughnessy's films, described him as, "an Eton-educated pillar of the establishment - the Queen's first boyfriend, actually". He married Jean Lodge in 1948 and had two sons.
