Alexis Irénée DuPont (1816-1857)

Head of the DuPont's Eleutherian Mills Gunpowder Factory, Delaware

He was fatally injured along with five of his employees in an accidental explosion at his gunpowder mills. In 1836, he married Joanna, daughter of Francis Gurney Smith, President of the Columbia Insurance Company, of Philadelphia. She was the sister of Dr. Thomas Mackie Smith who married his sister, Eleuthera. They were the parents of eight children (listed).
