Francis Gurney Smith (1784-1873)
President of the Columbia Insurance Company, of Philadelphia
He joined the 1st Philadelphia City Troop in 1808 and served during the War of 1812 when he was stationed at Fort Bull on the Cheasapeake Bay. He co-founded and served as Treasurer (1820-64) of the Musical Fund Society of Philadelphia. In 1807, he married Elizabeth Mackie and they had nine children.
