Owner of a Cord & Tassel Store in New York City
He and his wife were of Scots-Irish heritage. His well-known grandson, F. Marion Crawford, wrote: "My grandfather had a fine pride. He kept a cord and tassel store in New York and read Horace and the Bible of an evening. He never owed any man anything and he kept his family papers safe".
