Loseley Park
Loseley Park, Guildford, Surrey
Built by Sir Christopher More (1483-1549), M.P., Sheriff of Surrey and Sussex in the reign of King Henry VII. It has remained in the same family for 500 years, lived in and operated by the More-Molyneux family today. Over the years, it was also leased out to several prominent persons, including: Sir John Rose, the Canadian Minister of Finance, lived here from 1872 to 1883; 'Queen' Palmer who lived here during the early 1890s after moving from Ightham Mote; and, later William du Pont (1855-1928) and his second wife lived here after being ostracised from Delaware society for their marriage and before returning to their summer home, Montpelier. Today, Loseley is a house museum and popular wedding and events venue with spectacular gardens.
