William Yule (1769-1842)

William Yule, of Chambly, Quebec

He and his brother, John, came from Ayrshire to Canada with the British Army and at the end of their military service decided to stay. They made a fortune through flour mills and the timber industry at Chambly. Shortly before his death, William invested in part of the Seigneury of Chambly-Est. After he died, his wife acquired the Seigneury of Chambly-Ouest from the Hatt family and gifted the mansion, Chambly Castle, to their son, John, who had married the youngest daughter in the Hatt family. William and Letitia were married in Montreal in 1807 and had nine children.
