William W. Montgomery (1778-1864)

William W. Montgomery, of New Orleans; President of the Bank of Louisiana

He was born in New Jersey and moved to New Orleans soon after the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. He became a successful businessman and was President of the New Orleans branch of the Bank of the United States and of the Bank of Louisiana. In 1815, at the Battle of New Orleans, he served as Quartermaster of the 4th Regiment of Militia under Andrew Jackson. In 1813, he married the daughter of Jean-Baptiste Piver d'Elincourt, a planter from St. Domingo. They had nine children.
