William Tilden Blodgett (1823-1875)

Varnish Manufacturer & Co-Founder of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York

He was a co-founder of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, incorporated in 1870. In the following year, he and its first president, John Taylor Johnston, financed the initial "1871 Purchase" of 174-paintings.
