William Story Bullard (1814-1897)
Shipping Merchant, of Boston & "Highwood" Stockbridge, Massachusetts
He was born in Richmond, Virginia, where he and his brother, Stephen, were orphaned at an early age and brought to Boston with their adoptive family. He went into business with his brother and Henry Lee, managing the international shipping business Bullard & Lee (later Bullard, Lee, & Co.) at India Wharf, Boston. He lived with his family between 5 Mount Vernon Street (and from 1894, 3 Commonwealth Avenue) in Boston and in 1857 purchased "Highwood" (pictured) in the Berkshires from Samuel Gray Ward, it having previously belonged to his father.
