William Rae (1829-1896)
Partner in the Allan Line & Harbour Commissioner of Quebec
He was the son of Dr. Archibald Rae, M.D., who was born at Ayr in Scotland and died at Montreal, by his wife Margaret, daughter of Major Jackson Wray of Wraymount, King's County, Ireland. In 1857, he married Rachel, daughter of John Smith of Montreal (by his wife Betsey Rae who may have been a cousin) through whom he became brother-in-law to both Sir Hugh and Andrew Allan. He was agent to the Allan Line at Quebec as Rae, Allan & Co., and served as Harbour Commissioner of Quebec. William had one daughter, Maggie, who married her first cousin Hugh Andrew Allan.
