William Radford (1759-1803)

Merchant, of Richmond, Virginia

He was a boy when he joined the Hanover County Volunteers. As a Sergeant in the 1st Virginia Regiment he was captured by the British while taking part in Tarleton's Raid. For several years, he was confined - according to family tradition - to the Tower of London and either escaped or was released by exchange through the efforts of the Marquis de Lafayette.
