William Putnam Endicott (1803-1888)

Shipping Merchant & State Representative, of Salem, Massachusetts

He was born in Salem, Massachusetts, and graduated from Harvard College (1822). He was supercargo (the owner's on board representative) on ships to and from Europe and the West Indies before returning to Salem where he worked for various mercantile houses and in 1844 represented Salem in the Massachusetts General Court. In 1826, He married Mary, daughter of U.S. Congressman Jacob Crowninshield and they had four children. After she died, he married Harriet French, widow of Joseph W. Peabody (1787-1842). He lived between Salem and Milford, New Hampshire.
