William Jones (1760-1831)
U.S. Congressman, President of the Second National Bank of the United States, etc.
He was born in Philadelphia and at age sixteen he enlisted in the Continental Army and fought in the Battles of Trenton and Princeton during the Revolutionary War. After the war, he became a successful merchant and was elected a U.S. Congressman (1801 to 1803). During the War of 1812, he became U.S. Secretary of the Navy, and in January 1813 he was appointed acting Secretary of the Treasury. In 1816, he became President of the Second National Bank of the United States.
