William Hawkins Polk (1815-1862)
U.S. Congressman from Tennessee & U.S. Minister to the Two Sicilies
He was the younger brother of U.S. President James K. Polk. When he came to New York, he was "known in this community as the wildest sort of fast man. So he was at one time in his career. But now, all that is changed; he neither drinks, swears nor gambles. He is a tee-totaler, and a member of the church."
