William Cross (1809-1862)
of J. & A. Dennistoun, Liverpool; Cotton Merchants & Bankers, West Indian Trade
He was a descendant of Robert Cross (1639-1705) of Auchintoshan House, Glasgow, who traded in sugar and tobacco, co-founding the "Company of Scotland Trading to Africa & the West Indies" in 1694. William himself married into the Wood/Dennistoun family and moved with his family to Toxteth Park in Liverpool in 1846 when he became President of the short-lived Liverpool Borough Bank.
