William Coleman (1776-1837)
of the Iron Master's House, Cornwall, Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania
His father placed him in charge of all his iron operations and he remained in charge until 1828. After his father died in 1825, he left the Cornwall Furnace to William and his brothers James and Edward, and the ore mines were left to the three brothers plus their younger brother, Thomas. William and Edward sold ownership of all of their iron properties to James and Thomas, and when James died in 1831, Thomas became sole owner of all of the ironworks. From 1801, William was the first of the Colemans to live at what is now known as the Iron Master's Mansion (pictured) at Cornwall, first built by the Grubb family and given its present appearance in the 1860s.
