Wilhelmus Beekman (1623-1707)

Acting Mayor of New York City; Governor of Delaware & Pennsylvania

He was born in the Netherlands and came to New Amsterdam (New York) in 1647 with Peter Stuyvesant. He became Treasurer of the Dutch West India Company and served as Acting Mayor of New York City (1682); Governor of Delaware (1653-1664); and, Governor of Pennsylvania (1658-1663).
