Virginia (Fair) Vanderbilt (1875-1935)

Mrs. "Birdie" Virginia Graham (Fair) Vanderbilt

She was known as "Birdie" and was the younger of the two daughters of "Slippery Jim" Fair who struck it rich mining silver in California and left her $20 million. In 1898, she married railroad heir William Kissam Vanderbilt II and they were the parents of three children. They separated in 1909 but did not divorce until 18-years later. After her divorce, she lived between three homes (see images) - 60 East 93rd Street, New York City; "Cottage Normandy" at Brookville on the North Shore of Long Island, designed by John Russell Pope, circa 1911.
