Thomas Andrew Torrance (1735-1805)

of Larkhall, Lanarkshire

According to Ancestry, Thomas is shown to be the son of Hugh and Eleanor (Orr) Torrance but the Torrens and Allied Families website makes it very clear that Hugh (1695-1779) spelled his name "Torrens" and lived not in Scotland but at Mayoughill in Co. Londonderry, Northern Ireland. The families more than likely shared an ancestor in common but it is clear that Thomas of Larkhall was not a son of Hugh Torrens. Thomas's sons, the Torrances of Montreal, used a bull's head for their crest.
