Thomas Ross Newbold (1809-1858)
Stockbroker, of Philadelphia
He was born in Philadelphia and in 1813 he was painted (pictured) as a boy with his mother by Thomas Sully. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania (1826) and was admitted to the Philadelphia Bar (1829) but chose a career in finance. As well as being a stockbroker he edited "The North American." In 1835, Thomas R. Newbold married Julia, daughter of Gen. James Fleming of Hutchinson, New York.
