Thomas Langlois Lefroy (1776-1869)

K.C., P.C., M.P, of Carrickglass House, Co. Longford; Lord Chief Justice of Ireland

Scholars are united in accepting that it was Tom Lefroy who Jane Austen had in mind when she invented the character “Mr Darcy” in Pride and Prejudice. He was a first cousin of General Sir John Henry Lefroy, Governor of Bermuda.
