Thomas Jefferson Bassett (1833-1885)
Lt. Thomas Jefferson Bassett, of Brenham, Texas
He was born in Louisiana and was educated at St. Charles College, Louisiana, before going up to Yale University. He became a lawyer at Brenham, Texas, and during the Civil War served as a Lieutenant with the Confederates. After the war, he returned to Brenham and continued his career. In 1865, he married Lucy Breckinridge of Grove Hill, Virginia. She died of typhoid just five months later, after which he married Martha Roberson by whom he had four children.
