Thomas-Jacques Taschereau (1680-1749)

1st Seigneur de Sainte-Marie-de-la-Nouvelle-Beauce, Quebec

He was born at Saint-Pierre le Puellier (Tours). He came to New France (Quebec) in 1726 as Private Secretary to the Intendant of New France, Claude-Thomas Dupuy. In 1728, he married Marie-Claire, daughter of Joseph de Fleury de la Gorgendière and granddaughter of the explorer, Louis Jolliet, who discovered and mapped the Mississippi River. They returned briefly to France and then came back to Canada in 1732 when they purchased the Seigneury of Sainte-Marie-de-la-Nouvelle-Beauce in 1736.
