Thomas, 9th Lord Fairfax (1762-1846)
of "Belvoir" Fairfax Co., Virginia; 9th Lord Fairfax of Cameron
He owned 40,000-acres in Fairfax County, Virginia, and built a winter home in 1816 at 607 Cameron Street (see images) in Alexandria, Virginia. In December, 1799, he was among the last guests to be invited to Mount Vernon before Washington died. His religion (he was a follower of Swedenborg) led him to free his slaves, some of whom he taught a trade and sent to Liberia. He was succeeded in the Lordship of Fairfax by his grandson, Charles Snowden Fairfax, 10th Lord Fairfax.
