Thomas Ashburner (1700-1747)

In the "Pedigree of Ashburner" the father of the Governor of Poonah is given as "William Ashburner (d.1759), Yeoman, of Dalton (Bolton) in Furness, Lancashire" perhaps incorrectly attaching these Ashburners to those once seated at Gleaston. The will of William Ashburner of Bolton makes it very clear that he was not the father, nor was he related to the Governor. The Governor's father was in fact this Thomas, whose ancestry remains unclear. Thomas' wife (the Governor's mother, Dorothy Taylor) was a native of Latham in Lancaster, the same county in which they were married in 1729. In Thomas' will, he mentioned his brothers-in-law, Peter Woosey (d.1762), Gentleman, of Ormskirk, Lancaster, and Thomas Walker, Brewer, of Bermondsey, Surrey. In Woosey's will, he mentions his niece Margaret "Ashburn" to whom he bequeathed £100.
