Thaddeus Reynolds Beal (1870-1932)
Thaddeus R. Beal, of Newburgh, N.Y.; President of Central Hudson Gas & Electric
He was born in New York City and received a degree in engineering from the College of the City of New York. He started his career with the Central Union Gas Company. In 1900, his father bought the Newburgh Light, Heat & Power Company and Thaddeus became its secretary and treasurer. In 1911, his father created the Central Hudson Gas & Electric Company by combining the Newburgh company with the Poughkeepsie Light, Heat & Power Company, and Thaddeus was made its secretary and general manager. In 1927, he succeeded his father as President, by which time the company had consolidated 65 other power companies in the region. In 1916, he married Alice Dresel of New York. They had four children and lived at Echo Lawn in Newburgh. He had two brothers, Reynolds and Gifford, who were both noted artists.
