Stephen Sanford (1826-1913)

Carpet Manufacturer, of Amsterdam, N.Y., & U.S. Congressman from New York

He was the largest employer in Amsterdam, New York, giving work to 3,000 men and women. In the latter years of his life he became known for the victories of his hurricane-bred racehorses at Saratoga. He was survived by just one son.
