Sarah (Woolsey) Rogers (1750-1816)
Mrs Sarah (Woolsey) Rogers
She was born on Long Island, New York. Her sisters included Mrs Mary Dwight, wife of the President of Yale University; and Mrs Elizabeth Dunlap whose husband was a pioneer of American theater. Their youngest brother, George Muirson Woolsey, developed Casina on Long Island. Sarah was married in 1773 to Moses Rogers, "one of the first men of New York in his day" who was in business with her half-brother, William as Rogers & Woolsey. They were the parents of five children, four of whom survived to adulthood: (1) Benjamin, continued his father's business and moved into 7 State Street after his death; (2) Mrs Sarah Hopkins, wife of Judge Samuel M. Hopkins, U.S. Congressman and founder of Moscow, New York; (3) Archibald, who settled in Hyde Park; (4) Mrs Julia Winthrop, whose husband, Francis Bayard Winthrop, was in business with Rogers & Woolsey and after she died he married Julia's first cousin, Elizabeth Woolsey.
