Samuel Saltonstall (d.1613)
of Kingston-upon-Hull, Yorkshire
He was born at Huddersfield, Yorkshire, to a family that had been quick to buy up land around Hipperholme after Henry VIII dissolved the Monasteries (1536-41). He was the brother of Sir Richard Saltonstall, Lord Mayor of London in 1597. Samuel inherited Rookes Hall; Huntwicke; Winteredge Hall at Hipperholme; and, Rogerthorpe in Badsworth. By 1612, he had sold his property in Hipperholme (later known as Langley Hall) to his tenant and was living in Kingston-upon-Hull where he is buried.
