Samuel Hopkins (1748-1818)

Representative to the Connecticut General Assembly

He was born at Waterbury (then called Salem), Connecticut, before moving to Goshen in 1774. During the Revolution, he enlisted as a soldier in the militia and marched to the defence of New York in 1776. He was thirteen times elected Goshen's Representative to the Connecticut General Assembly. In 1809, he moved to Mount Morris, New York, where he died in 1818. He was, "a man of large reading, literary tastes, but especially the theological acumen". He was married twice and was survived by five children. He is a direct ancestor of the actor Ben Affleck.
